Daily Activity

Nestled in green abundant Zambian countryside, yet only 20 minutes from Lusaka, Ciêla defines a new chapter in African hospitality. This 249-room designer hotel is set in a tranquil, scenic 100-hectare estate which includes a premier 18-hole golf course, the Lusaka International Convention Centre, a luxury spa, a gym, and a choice of fantastic dining experiences.

Kafue was established by the legendary Norman Carr in the 1950s and is Zambia's oldest and largest national park. Covering a massive 22,400 km2 (8,650 mi2), the park is dominated by Miombo woodlands and interspersed with seasonal floodplains, rivers, and dambos - the dry riverbeds that provide seasonal refuge for the wide variety of wildlife. In fact, Kafue boasts more species than any other park south of the Congo.

Lower Zambezi National Park covers an area of 4,092 km2 (1,580 mi2), with game concentrated on the valley floor. There is an escarpment along the northern end which acts as a physical barrier to most of the park’s resident wildlife, and enormous herds of elephant, some up to 100 strong, are often seen at the river’s edge. The riverine woodland includes ebony, fig, and Albida trees, whose seed pods are a huge attraction to the elephants and browsing animals. Further inland is a floodplain fringed with Mopane forest interspersed with winter thorns and huge Acacias.

Chula Island Camp is a seasonal bush camp on the beautiful eastern section of the lower Zambezi river. This private island location offers complete isolation in a prime wildlife area. The camp has a well stocked bar and seating area under canvas, and ensuite bathrooms. The camp is light weight and a textbook example of how light luxury in the wilderness can be.

South Luangwa is 9,060 km2 (3,500 mi2) in size and has incredibly diverse landscapes ranging from dense forests of mopane, ebony and sausage trees to wide open savanna punctuated only by the occasional lonely baobab - all hugged by the wide and winding Luangwa River. The river is the most intact major river system in Africa and the lifeblood of this park. The now famous “walking safari” originated here and is still one of the finest ways to experience Africa’s pristine wilderness firsthand. The changing seasons add to the park’s richness, from dry bushveld in the winter to lush wonderland in the summer months.

Warm and welcoming, Bilimungwe Bushcamp blends seamlessly with its surroundings and offers unrivalled wildlife viewings. The traditions of the African bushcamp meet elegance and style in this stunning camp that feels like it has grown organically out of the surrounding landscape. Set beneath a huge mahogany tree, the heart of Bilimungwe is the cool, shady lounge area that looks out over one of the camp's three waterholes.

Kapamba Bushcamp is a remote and romantic camp situated in a prime location on the Kapamba River, and one of only two bushcamps to be open from April to January - the other being Zungulila. In a remote corner of the South Luangwa National Park, this one-of-a-kind camp combines the isolation and superb game-viewing opportunities of a true bushcamp with a touch of luxury.
