October - November
October is really the last dry month in Botswana and you may experience the beginning of the rain, the average day time temperatures soar to around 33 degrees centigrade, although the Makgadikgadi and Kalaghari can be considerably hotter. The salt pans are at the dustiest and the animals concentrate around the available water, the banks of the Chobe River are teeming with wildlife. The rains when they arrive in November can be spectacular with dramatic displays of thunder and lightning. It tends not to rain for long periods, rather a short sharp shower which can (usually) be dodged. The skies, sunsets and sunrises at this time of year are spectacular and in our opinion worth the odd soaking!
